These top quality Mexican ceramic masks show a traditional Mesoamerican face with an ornate
headdress. The headdress shows a figure that is often associated with the Mayan calendar.
The ancient Maya had a very accurate method of counting days and years and at the centre
of these calendars, there is usually a figure known as a Year Bearer. The figure is shown
to be struggling with a glyph on his back which represents the burden of time.
Approx 27cm tall x 15cm wide.
